Kolkata-Bangkok highway to open in 4 years

The Kolkata-Bangkok highway as part of BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Co-operation) will likely to get completed in coming 4 years said by commerce ministers of various countries in a meeting held by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on 13-06-2023.

As per proposed plan, the highway will starts from Bangkok through the cities Sukhothai, Mae Sot in Thailand, Yangon, Mandalay, Kalewa, Tamu (Myanmar) till India. In India it will likely pass through from Moreh, Kohima, Guwahati, Srirampur, Siliguri to Kolkata. The total distance would approximately cover over 2800 km while India has the major stretch. The Road part in Thailand has been completed already said by the Thai vice-minister of Foreign Affairs. Myanmar part would get completed in 3 years said by their Minister.
